Fringe Events

We know that the key focus for groups is performing their play in the All Ireland competition, and that focus is firmly on that. However, because this is a special occasion in our town, we have organised some fringe events in tandem with the finals.

Play Reading by Ballina Drama Group
Ballina Drama Group, good friends and supporters of the Western Drama Festival, will do a play reading, a real fun piece on Saturday 22nd April in Teach Laighne at 2pm.

Exhibition of Art at Tubbercurry Library
An exhibition of art is also being facilitated by local Artist Claire Doohan. Claire’s work with the residents of Baileys Nursing Home is a really unique project, this would have been, for most of those people, their very first creative opportunity. The paintings will be exhibited in the local library in Tubbercurry.

Art Exhibition by Local Artists at St Brigid's Hall
Claire Doohan and Rita Flannery are also organising an exhibition by local artists which will run in St Brigids Hall from Monday 24th to Friday 28th April. The exhibition will be open from 6.30pm to 7.30pm daily.

Rugged Mystery Tour
On Saturday 29th April we have arranged a special Rugged Mystery Tour. We will meet outside St Brigids Hall at 10:30am. All are welcome and a nominal fee will apply. You can contact Eileen Davey (WDF PRO) or Eileen Murtagh (087 2252290) to book your place.

Cafe Theatre at The Mayqueen Bar
Walker Ewart performs 'Your Life and Mine’ Cafe Theatre, on Saturday 29th April at 3pm at the Mayqueen Bar. The renowned Walker Ewart has a special treat in store for us.We very much look forward to his most thought provoking show’ Your Life and Mine’. (PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME OF 3PM)

Scenic Walks
Bring your Walking Gear (boots/wellies and rain gear)!! The surrounding area around South Sligo is beautiful and you will see from this web site (under Things to Do) we have loads of scenic walks and we will be most happy to direct you or show you the way!
